Who We Are

Food Bank For New York City has been working to end food poverty in our five boroughs since 1983. As the city’s largest hunger-relief organization, we employ a multifaceted approach centered on helping low-income New Yorkers overcome their circumstances and achieve greater independence.

What We Do


Volunteer in the Pantry with Food Bank for New York City 

Minimum Age: 18+ (14+ when accompanied by a parent/guardian)

Volunteer Opportunity Available: Volunteers will assist with packing and distributing grocery bags with fresh produce and shelf-stable staples for community members, as well as other pantry tasks as needed.

Timeframe: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays**; Morning, Midday, Afternoon
Thursdays; Midday, Afternoon
**First Saturday of the month only
Days/Times are subject to change; check out Food Bank for New York City’s calendar for updated events.

What to Bring: Closed-toe/closed-heel shoes, comfortable/appropriate clothing, water bottle is recommended

 


Volunteer with Meal Service with Food Bank for New York City

Minimum Age: 18+

Volunteer Opportunities Available: Volunteers will help welcome guests and serve dinners in an elevated dining experience

Timeframe: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays- Afternoon

What to Bring: Closed toe and heel shoes, clothes that completely cover the chest, shoulder, underarms, torso and knees
